New Morocco Climb Tafraout Guidebooks
Tafraout in Southern Morocco offers a magical oasis of rock climbing; a place where you can enjoy winter sun, good quality rock, and adventurous trad climbing amidst the stunning sub-Saharan scenery. The climbing at Tafraout offers a little bit of everything from roadside cragging, bouldering, the odd sport route, to epic multi-pitch mountain adventures.
To the north of Tafraout are the Anti-Atlas Mountains of Jebel el Kest and Jebel Taskra. These orange quartzite cliffs offer remote, adventurous trad climbing, with the majority of the routes being multi-pitch. The quartzite rock is usually of a high quality, offering good holds, with solid and easy to place protection. Here the climbing is covered by the new Climb Tafraout: Morocco Anti-Atlas Mountains Guidebook that describes over 2, 000 routes of which the majority are multi-pitch trad routes, across a wide range of grades.
To the south and east of Tafraout there is an incredible landscape of coarse-grained granite tors, painted orange and pink by the sun. Here the climbing is a little different with a paradise of granite slab and crack climbing, throwing up full-body, three-dimensional manoeuvres that you’re unlikely to call upon on other rock types. The climbing is covered by the new Tafraout Granite Rock Climbing Guidebook. It describes everything from single and multi-pitch routes, both sport and trad, as well as a number of Fontainebleau-style bouldering circuits, across a wide range of grades.
The best time of the year to climb at Tafraout is from late September to the end of April, with access from either Agadir or Marrakech airports.
