New Leonidio Rock Climbing Guidebook
The town of Leonidio is surrounded by beautiful limestone crags of all different colours and shades that sit on the hillsides around the town. Leonidio has become a major sport climbing area and is often described as the best place to go sport climbing on mainland Greece.
The crags are a mixture of red and grey limestone rock that is highly featured offering a wide variety of climbing. At Leonidio you will find tufa columns, steep crimpy walls, caves with stalactites, and grey slabs requiring good balance. There are over 2,000 single pitch sport routes across a wide variety of grades from F4 to F9a+, with the majority of the routes in the F6a to F7c grade bracket. In addition, there are 40 multi-pitch routes ranging from 150m to 245m long. The best time to go climbing at Leonidio is in the winter months, with the climbing season being from October through to April.
A new comprehensive Leonidio Rock Climbing Guidebook has just been published (revised 3rd edition) that describes 2,340 sport routes at Leonidio and Kyparissi (located to the south of Leonidio). All the routes are shown on colour photo topos, and it is in English text throughout.
