This guidebook describes 32 day walks in the Tejeda, Almijara Y Alhama Mountains that lie behind the holiday towns of Nerja, Torre del Mar, and Almunecar on the Costa del Sol coast. These mountains, gorges and white mountain villages in the Spanish region of Axarquía, comprise of 50 mountains over 1,000m high, with the highest, La Maroma at 2,080m high. Easily accessible from Nerja and Velez-Malaga, the routes range from easy strolls to strenuous climbs, including the peaks of La Maroma, El Cielo and Cisne.
The routes described in this guidebook are aimed at walkers of all levels of fitness and experience, with routes ranging from 3km to 22km long. For each walk there is a detailed route description along with a map, along with detailed instructions on getting to the start, plus where to find refreshments and water sources. Some routes visit sections of the 700km (430 mile) Gran Senda de Malaga (Great Path of Malaga).
The best time to walk in these beautiful mountains is from March to May and September to November. All of the routes in this guidebook can be walked in a day trip from Nerja, Velez-Malaga and Cómpeta making these delightful coastal towns a good place to be based.
