Description
South Platte Climbing is one of the oldest granite rock climbing areas in Colorado, located between Denver and Colorado Springs, near the town of Deckers. This is the definitive guidebook to the northern part of the South Plate area and covers 1,600 routes in 8 great climbing areas, Cathedral Spires, the Castle, Top of the World, Pine, the Malay Archipelago, Buffalo Creek, Noddle Heads, Rampart Range and Road North. The style of climbing is a mixture of sport and traditional routes, with both short, steep hard routes and long multi-pitch moderate routes. Routes like Center Route, 5.9 (F5+) and Wunsch's Dihedral, 5.11b (F6c) are widely regarded as two of the best multi pitch routes in the state. There is also some great bouldering to be had in Pine, and with over 600 square miles to this area, there is something for everyone. At the beginning of each climbing area there is a general introduction describing the climbing and its aspect, along with a clear location map, driving directions, and access information. All the routes are shown on colour photo-topos complete with detailed route descriptions and pitch-by-pitch route breakdowns. Clear information is also given about whether routes are bolted, or any sort of fixed protection is provided, along with what gear you need on your rack.
