Goteborg (Gothenburg) rock climbing guidebook
Description
This is a comprehensive guidebook describing the rock climbing and sport climbing around Gothenburg in southwest Sweden. The guidebook describes 55 crags in 3 main areas, which are as follows:
- Gothenburg City - mainly trad routes plus some sport routes in the upper grades.
- North Gothenburg – mainly sport climbing on steep and overhanging routes.
- East Gothenburg – mainly sport climbing on vertical, slightly overhanging or slabby routes, mostly in the lower to mid-grades, around the city of Boras.
The rock in this area is a mixture of granite and gneiss, with the guidebook describing 2,392 routes across a wide range of grades. All the routes are shown on colour topos along with Swedish grades, though there is a good grade conversation table at the start of the guidebook (converting to French, American and UIAA).
The structure and layout of the guidebook is very clear and simple to use. For each crag there is a description of the character and aspect of the climbing to be found, plus there is a location map, QR code for the parking, along with approach information. Symbols are used to indicate amongst others, approach time from the car, orientation, style of climbing, bolted or trad routes, grade spread, and route lengths.
Published in 2020 (revised 4th edition) this guidebook details an extra 700 routes than the previous edition. The guidebook is in Swedish text throughout but a large amount of information is conveyed by symbols. Also the introduction section for each of the 3 main areas is in English text. Each guidebook has unique code to download an App to the full guidebook that is free of charge.
