Rock Climbing in Ibiza
Ibiza is the third largest of Spain’s Balearic Islands (which includes Mallorca and Menorca), and it offers a wide range of rock climbing and sport climbing on sharp limestone rock. There are very few rocky outcrops in Ibiza, which means that the majority of the rock climbing is on sea cliffs and isolated coves.

Most of Ibiza’s rock climbing is found on the limestone sea cliffs along the islands north coast at Isla Blanca, Cap de Rubio and Cap Aubarca, along with the big limestone cliffs at Buda in the south west of the island. These offer a variety of climbing styles from slabs and vertical walls to steep caves, roofs and tufas. The climbing involves a mixture of single and multi-pitch routes, with everything from easily accessible crags to very adventurous sea cliffs with awkward access.
On Ibiza there are over 630 bolted routes, and with a superb variety of styles and grades there’s something to suit most tastes and abilities. Easy access, lots of low and middle grade routes on immaculate, unpolished limestone, year-round sunshine and a relaxed atmosphere make Ibiza an ideal climbing venue throughout the year.
The best time to go rock climbing in Ibiza is from the autumn through to the spring. The only time to avoid is in the summer when it is just too hot, and party seeking tourists invade the island. However out of season (November to April) the island is very quiet and most of the bars, restaurants and other tourist facilities are closed, though it is still possible to find accommodation. Therefore the best months for rock climbing in Ibiza are May, June, September and October when all the facilities are open, and the temperatures are ideal for climbing. The proximity of Mallorca (with its excellent climbing) along with the existence of frequent ferries between the islands, means it is possible to have a two-centre climbing holiday.
Walking and hiking on Ibiza
There is also a great variety of walking to be found on Ibiza such as the salt lakes of Ses Salines, a protected natural park full of bird life and water-fowl. The valley of Buscastel is one of many valleys and much of the island is covered in pine forests that make pleasant walks.
The Ibiza Tour and Trail Super-Durable Map covers a great network of walking and hiking trails, including 39 walking routes, as well as many official mountain biking routes. Buy this Ibiza walking map from our shop.
