Walking and hiking in the northern Croatia Islands

Rab, Krk, Lošinj and Cres are some of the largest of the northern Croatia islands, and they are great places to go walking and hiking. On all of these Croatian Islands you will a large variety of walking options from, beautiful coastal walks discovering hidden coves, through various woods to mountains that are a couple of hundred metres high and along ridges. There are also many archaeological sites, various ruins, and chapels to discover. There are numerous trails and paths that are ideal for walkers of all abilities.

Walking on Rab Island

Walking on Lošinj Island

Lošinj Island has many secluded beaches and tranquil fishing villages and has been described at Croatia’s best kept secret holiday location. Its highest point is Osoršćica at 589m high. Walking on Cres Island

Cres Island is mainly covered with dense forests and has a rocky coastline, with hidden coves and hilltop towns. There over 300km of marked walking, hiking and biking trails all over Cres that take you isolated hamlets, peaks, caves and beaches.


In the centre of the island is a large fresh water lake, called Lake Vrana that is one of the deepest in Eastern Europe. In the north of Cres is the Porozina region that includes Tramuntana and the Beli Eko Centre where there are 7 eco-trails and is a griffon vulture protection centre.

Just off the coast of Pula is the Brijuni National Park that is a collection of 14 very green islands.
