Athen Bouldering
There are a surprising number of bouldering areas within an hour’s drive of Athens, with around 800 problems spread across 25 different sectors. These hidden gems offer a variety of challenges that will appeal to climbers of all abilities, with problems ranging from Fb4 to Fb8b+, as well as many unfinished projects.

The largest bouldering area in Athens is at Mt Penteli, where these rugged rocks account for roughly 400 problems across 14 sectors. The other main bouldering areas are Mt Ymittos, Marathon, Keratea, Stamata, and Filopappou Hill.
The bouldering around Athens is mainly found on schist rock (roughly 80-85% of the problems), as well as some marble and limestone rock. The layered texture of this schist rock offers excellent friction and provides a wide variety of climbing styles with many jugs, crimps and slopers.
