Collection: Guidebooks for England

In England there is a great variety of rock and type of climbing to choose from. Traditional rock climbing forms the majority of the rock climbing found across the whole of England, though sport climbing and bouldering are also very popular. However what sets England apart from other countries is the great variety rock to climb on; from the classic gritstone found in the Peaks and Yorkshire; the rough granite of Cornwall, Lundy, Dartmoor and Jersey; the limestone in the Peaks, Yorkshire, Wye Valley and Dorset; the mountains of the Lake District; to the sandstone found in Northumberland, North York Moors and to the south of London.

Climb Europe stocks and sells a wide range of rock climbing and bouldering guidebooks all across England. These have been broken down into the following sub-categories:

The Peak District is the most popular rock climbing area in England, with literally many thousands of routes to choose from. There is everything from traditional routes on gritstone and limestone to bolted sports routes in old quarries. The gritstone edges also provide some of the best bouldering in England.

The mountains of the Lake District provide the most picturesque rock climbing in England, and this is where many of the long multi-pitch traditional routes are found. The climbing ranges from low level valley crags to routes high up in the mountains, plus many diverse bouldering areas.

Northern England provides some excellent crags in Lancashire (gritstone) and Yorkshire (gritstone and limestone). The sandstone crags in Northumberland, Cheshire and the North York Moors provide some excellent rock climbing that is away from the crowds and often in beautiful locations.  The Yorkshire gritstone and the sandstone in Northumberland and Cheshire also provide many excellent bouldering areas.

The Wye Valley on the border with Wales provides many excellent limestone crags, ranging from single pitch routes to long multi-pitch routes at Winters Leap. The Avon Gorge located to the west of Bristol and Cheddar Gorge further south provide an abundance of long, enjoyable routes on limestone rock, which are often multi-pitch.

In Dorset there are two great sea cliff climbing areas. Portland, near Weymouth, is England's largest sports climbing area, where as Swanage provides mainly traditional routes. Dorset is also famous for its Deep Water Soloing (DWS) opportunities.

Devon offers a wide range of climbing areas. This includes the granite outcrops & Tors on Dartmoor, where bouldering can also be found, to the sea cliff climbing on the north and south coasts. Cornwall, Lundy and Jersey are all about sea cliff climbing on granite rock, often in wild and exposed positions. Many of the routes here require as much commitment in getting to the base of the routes as it does to climb them.

To the southeast of London there are a number of sandstone climbing areas, offering single pitch routes and lots of bouldering.

All of these rock climbing guidebooks for England are in stock (unless otherwise stated) and are dispatched within 2 working days (usually 24 hours) from the UK.
