New Sintra Bouldering Guidebook
Sintra is one of Portugal’s best known bouldering areas that is located just north of Lisbon. The style of bouldering is huge at Sintra, where the granite rock provides an abrasive grip that involves compression moves, insane crimps, technical vertical walls, and slabs with lots of friction. The boulders are spread out across a distance of approximately 10km, with the majority of the areas having good landings. This superb bouldering is situated high in a forest in an atmospheric and magical environment.
There are over 1,300 problems at Sintra across a wide range of grades from Fb 3’s through to Fb 8b+. The best time of the year to boulder at Sintra is between October and May. However, it is possible to boulder throughout the year, and on cloud-covered days you can find good friction even in June.
