Valchiavenna and Engadina Rock Climbing Guidebook
Description
The guidebook covers the sport climbing in the Italian Alps from Valchiavenna (Chiavenna Valley) in Italy to Engadin in Switzerland. It covers 71 crags mainly on gneiss and granite rock across a wide area including Valle Spluga and Val Bregaglia.
Generally the sport routes described are within the valley floor and/or at a low altitude. There is a good mixture of single pitch and multi-pitch routes, with many of these between 200m and 300m long. The different areas provide a wide range of grades to suit climbers of all abilities and styles, with plenty of options depending upon the weather or the season. The higher altitude routes in this area are covered in the Solo Granite guidebook.
All the routes are described on clear topos with French grades used throughout, along with descriptions for the multi-pitch routes. At the start of each crag, is a location map, approach details and a brief description of the crag. There is further information regarding orientation of the crag and hence exposure to the sun, the condition of the bolts, the overall beauty of the crag, how good the parking is, how popular it is, and if it is child friendly.
