Description

This is a selective guidebook covering the alpine multi-pitch routes at Uskedalen and Eikedalen.    The routes described are, with a few exceptions, naturally protected multi-pitch routes, which require a full trad rack of nuts and cams of all sizes.

The granite of Uskedalen has thick grain crystals, offering superb friction, has been likened to climbing in Yosemite.  These granite walls offer many corners and cracks, with trad multi-pitch routes up to 900m long.  There are also shorter routes starting from 2-pitches, all the way up to 18-pitch monsters.

This guidebook describes 78 routes at Uskedalen, 53 routes at Eikedalen and a handful of sport climbing routes at Hjortegryta.  The 131 multi-pitch routes covered are mainly between 5’s and 6’s in the Norwegian grading system that equates to between F5’s and F6a+.  Each route is described across 2 pages on 1 sheet of paper.  The first page shows a photo topo of the route, along with some general information about the route.  There is access information, an approach map and GPS co-ordinates.  The second page shows a hand drawn topo, with individual pitch descriptions.

The format of the guidebook is unique in that it is a ring bind folder that allows you to take out the sheet covering your desired route.  The pages have a plastic-like coating making them reasonably waterproof.

Published in 2021 this guidebook is in Norwegian text throughout, though the colour photo topos and the hand drawn topos are very detailed.  At the beginning of the guidebook there is an introduction in English, along with a Norwegian to English dictionary, translating the most common words used in the route descriptions.
