Description

This guidebook describes 34 walking trails in the Picos de Europa National Park in the Cantabrian Mountains. This National park only covers a small area about 50kms by 25kms, but within this area there is a vast choice of great walks. The landscape is of jagged limestone peaks separated by green valleys and rivers. Some of the highlights include the Cares Gorge, the Covadonga Lakes, and the remarkable rock tower of Picu Urriellu (also known as the Naranjo de Bulnes).

The 34 walks in this guidebook are suitable for walkers of all abilities and they are graded from easy to strenuous and exposed, in 10 different steps. For each walk there is comprehensive description and a bespoke map that combined gives clear and concise information and useful tips. A table includes total length, total Ascent, and the type of terrain to be found on the walk. GPS co-ordinates are also given for various points along the walk, plus practice information such as where you can find watering holes, as well as where to stay overnight and where to park your car.

Published in 2018 this guidebook is in English text throughout. The author Phil Lawler has an intimate knowledge of this beautiful mountain range, as well as mountains in other parts of Spain.
