Description
This is a selective guidebook covering the best rock climbing to be found in Cornwall, Devon, Lundy and the Channel Islands. The style and ethic of the climbing found in the south west is all about adventurous traditional climbing with very little in the way of bolts or other fixed gear. However, there really is something for everyone, with hundreds of superb routes across a wide range of grades and styles, and on a variety of rock types. The tip of Cornwall has granite sea cliff climbing at Sennen, Land’s End, and Chair Ladder, plus multi-pitch climbing at Bosigran. Huge, committing sea cliff adventurous climbing is found on the Cornish Atlantic coast and the Culm coast. Short technical routes and bouldering is found on the granite outcrops and tors of Dartmoor and Bodmin Moors. Completing the choice is the friendly sandstone crag at Baggy Point near Croyde, and the limestone crags around Torbay that also include some Deep Water Soloing (DWS).
In total 59 different crags are included, detailing 695 routes across a wide range of grades. All the routes are illustrated on clear colour photo topos along with detailed descriptions. British trad grades are used throughout or French sport grades for deep water soloing routes. The guidebook was published in 2014 by the Climbers Club, with English text throughout, and includes many excellent action photographs.
