Sicily Rock – San Vito Sport Climbing Guidebook
Description
This guidebook describes the sport climbing around the famous seaside resort of San Vito Lo Capo, near Trapani in northern Sicily. Along the coast on the west side of San Vito lo Capo is a great coastal cliff nearly 4km long. This cliff has hundreds of quality limestone single pitch sport routes that are well bolted and cover a wide range of grades, particularly from F5 to F7a. San Vito is an excellent place to go climbing in the winter months as many of the crags face south and west. This coupled with great connections to Trapani and Palermo airports from all over Europe make San Vito a great winter sun rock climbing holiday.
Close to San Vito lo Capo is Monte Monaco, where there is a mixture of bolted and trad multi pitch routes from 150m to 400m long, plus 1 route that is 645m long. All these routes are all covered in this guidebook along with the crags at Castelluzzo near Macari and Custonaci near Scurati.
In total over 1,200 sport routes are described, including many multi-pitch routes up to 400m long. All the routes are illustrated on colour photo-topos with French grades. Also included is the bouldering at the big cave situated directly above the main climbing area. At the start of each area there is a good location map, information how to get there, and a general description of the climbing.
This is the 8th edition of this guidebook, which was published in January 2023. This edition includes new symbols for routes that have been re-bolted/bolted with duplex-steel (PLX) or titanium bolts. The guidebook is written in Italian, German and English text throughout, and includes many excellent action photographs.
