Description
The Schweiz Plaisir Ost guidebook describes the rock climbing and sport climbing in the Eastern Swiss Alps at grades up to F6c. The guidebook covers the area from Luzern in central Switzerland, across to Pfaffikon and onto Chur in eastern Switzerland. The crags are dotted around Grimsel, Andermatt, Vals, Altdorf, Sustenpass, Engleberg, Sargans, Davos, Samedan, and Appenzell. A few crags in western Austria (Tirol) are also included.
In total 92 separate crags are detailed with the guidebook split into 5 areas, which are:
- Central Switzerland (around Lake Luzern)
- Glarus - Sargans
- Graubünden
- Alpstein - Bregenz
- Ötztal valley, Tirol (in Austria)
There is a great variety of different rock types found in this area of Eastern Switzerland, such as the grippy horizontally banded limestone in Melchtal. In Central Switzerland, around Sargans and Graubünden (Grisons) there is amazing limestone and granite rock, and to the north, the solid smooth walls of the Alpstein Massif will lure you in.
The routes range from single pitch sport routes to long alpine style multi-pitch routes many 100’s of metres long. For each crag the type of equipment required is detailed. So for single pitch sport routes rope length and number of quickdraws are detailed. For the multi-pitch routes the type of ropes required and any additional equipment such as nuts and cams are detailed.
At the start of each area there is a good location map, along with useful information such as altitude, when the crag is in the sun and the style of climbing to be found. The crag topo's are very clear, with all the routes given French grades (each pitch if appropriate).
Published in May 2026 this guidebook is written in German, French and English text throughout. This revised 7th edition includes 20 more crags than the previous edition.
