Description

The Schweiz Plaisir Jura guidebook describes the rock climbing and sport climbing at grades up to F6c in the Jura Mountains of northwest Switzerland.  The guidebook covers the area from Lausanne on the shore of Lake Geneva along the northwest of Switzerland, through Biel, and Basel, to the north of Zurich.  The climbing is found between vineyards and castle ruins, on plateaus and in narrow gorges, in the middle of ancient oak forests or directly above the rooftops of the city - it's all part of the Jura.  The Jura is at a lower altitude than the Alps of Switzerland, offering good climbing conditions later into the year.

In total 68 separate crags are described, which provide a good mixture of single pitch sport routes and multi-pitch routes, mainly on limestone rock. Many of multi-pitch routes are well bolted, but where trad gear is required for these the guidebook indicates the number cams and nuts required for each route.

The crag topos are very clear, with all the routes given French grades (each pitch if appropriate).  At the start of each area there is a good location map, plus information about the type of protection required, and length of rope.  The total number of routes, plus the grade range, along with symbols indicating aspect and the best season to climb.
