Salty Routes is a selective guidebook describing the climbing from Italy’s western Ligurian hinterland to the French Riviera around Nice and Monaco.  It is split into 11 main areas and covers 77 crags, with routes across a wide range of grades from F5’s to F8’s.  There are many limestone rock faces of exceptional quality that up until now have been hidden gems.  Climbing is possible throughout the year by carefully choosing to move from the coast the mountains, to make the most of the different seasons and exposure to the sun.

The 11 main areas are:

France – Le Palais, Alcatraz, La Turbie, Peillon, Menton, and Valle Roja.
Italy – La Brigue, Casterino, Col di Tendsa, Val Tanaro, and Valle Argentina.

All the routes are illustrated on clear colour topos along with a short description as appropriate. At the start of each crag there is an introduction giving a general description of the crag, detailed approach information, map, and QR code for the parking area.  Symbols indicate how well the route is bolted, altitude, how popular the crag is, how good the parking is, orientation of the crag showing when it is in the sun, altitude, approach time, and if the crag is child friendly.  Finally, there is a table showing the total number of routes at each grade.
