Oberwallis Rock Climbing Guidebook
Description
This Oberwallis (Valais East or Upper Valais) Rock Climbing Guidebook covers one of the most important climbing and mountaineering areas in Switzerland, including the popular areas around Zermatt and Saas Fee.
The guidebook covers the eastern area of the canton of Valais centred on the city of Brig, describing 7 main areas. These climbing areas are Goms; Aletsch-Brig; Simplon; Visp; Saastal; Mattertal; and Raron-Siders. The guidebook describes almost 2,000 routes across 99 crags covering both single and multi-pitch routes. Included are 250 multi-pitch routes up to 800m long, of which 55 routes are longer than 250m. The majority of the routes are fully bolted, though some trad routes are also included. The guidebook is very comprehensive with sectors for families and beginners, as well as more committed alpine routes for experienced climbers.
The majority of the routes are shown on colour photo topos, with some detail hand-drawn topos. For each of the 99 crags there is a location map and approach information. Symbols are used to show approach time, style of climbing, orientation. rope length and gear requirements, plus how well the routes are bolted.
