Escalades Phoceennes is a comprehensive rock climbing guidebook covering 38 major crags around the city of Marseille, including Château Virant, Lascours, the Vallon du Saut, the Grande Étoile, and the Matrice. The guidebook is split into 4 main areas, which are:
- Etoilet et Garlaban (to the south of Aix-en-Provence)
- L’ etang de Berre (to the west of Aix-en-Provence)
- Chaine de l'Estaque (to the west of Marseille)
- Marseille
This guidebook describes 2,063 routes that are all shown on colour photo topos. For each crag, there is access information and GPS co-ordinates for the parking areas. Symbols are used to show the orientation of the crag, route lengths, approach time and if the crag is child friendly.
Published in 2012 this guidebook is in French text throughout, but a large amount of information is conveyed by symbols. 50% of the profits from this guidebook are donated to the "Les Grimpeurs" association to help finance the bolting and re-bolting of the routes in this region.
