Description

This Lakes Sport and Slate Climbing Guidebook is a definitive guidebook covering the sport crags in Cumbria, together with the Trad slate crags near Coniston, including The Works dry-tooling venue.  The guidebook details over 850 routes (mainly sport) across a wide range of grades from F4 to F8’s.

The Guidebook covers; 6 limestone crags in southern Cumbria, including the magnificent Chapel Head Scar; the sandstone crags at St Bees Head in West Cumbria and Coudy Rocks in Appleby in the east; the recent developments on micro-granite at the immensely popular Bramcrag Quarry; plus 13 slate crags near Coniston that offer a mixture of sport and Trad routes.

All the routes are shown on colour photo topos, along with a detailed description. At the start of each main area there is a location map showing the different crags, a good description giving a general overview and type of rock climbing to be found there. Each crag has a separate approach description and map (if appropriate) with GPS co-ordinates for the parking, and OS grid reference for the crag. Symbols indicate the type of climbing (trad or sport), approach time and crag orientation.

Published by the Fell and Rock Climbing Club (FRCC) in July 2020, this Wired guidebook also has many excellent action photographs.
