Description
This guidebook describes all the documented bouldering to be found at Hampi near Bangalore in southern India. The Hampi granite bouldering area is vast with many areas totally un-developed, and as such has been descripted as the largest bouldering area in the world, stretching to an area over 300 sq km. It is certainly beautiful with the blue water of the Tungabhadra River, green palm trees, and funny monkeys, along with friendly people and a warm climate. The height of the granite boulders varies from countless low blocks with many of the best problems on medium height to three-star highball blocks. However the vast majority of the landings are pleasantly flat. The best time of the year to climb is during the dry season of October through to May.
This guidebook describes the 10 main areas and documents over 1,400 boulder problems, plus a small number of roped routes. All the routes are shown on excellent quality colour photo topos, a brief description and boulder maps. At the start of the guidebook there is the usual useful information for the traveller including: Hints for the journey, Hampi knowledge, the temples, how to behave as a foreigner, history of climbing, rice cultivation, geology, Indian cuisine, the caste system, Hindu gods, monkeys, dictionary, and health.
Published in November 2013, this guidebook is in English and German text throughout. The quality of the action photographs is exceptional that just want you to go and book the plane ticket.
