Friuli e Terre di Confine is a comprehensive guidebook covering the rock climbing areas around the Italian and Slovenian border. The guidebook mainly covers the crags in the northeast Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulias, around the cities of Trieste, Pordenone, and to the north of Udine around the town of Tolmezzo.
The guidebook covers a wide area and describes 78 different crags detailing many 1000’s of routes across a wide range of grades. Some of the larger crags include the renowned overhangs of Erto along with Val Colvera, plus Braulins, Somplago, and Strabut near Tolmezzo, and Avostanic near the Austrian border. 6 crags around Trieste are also covered including its famous crags of Costiera and Napoleonica. Finally, the excellent crags of Osp, Misja Pec and Crni Kal that are located across the border in Slovenia are also included.
All the routes are shown on clear colour topos, along with the route length. At the start of each crag there is a location map, approach information, and QR codes for the parking areas and the crag. Symbols then indicate the altitude, orientation of the crag, overall beauty, how good the parking is, how good the bolting is, approach time and if the crag if child friendly. A graph showing the total number of routes at each grade is also given.
Published in 2020 this guidebook is in Italian text throughout, but a large amount of information is conveyed by symbols plus there are the QR odes for the maps..
