Description

This France Roc 1 guidebook covers a huge range of climbing and bouldering in central France.  Ranging from Fontainebleau in the north to Millau in the south it covers over 250 different crags, and over 11,000 routes from F3a to F8a.  The guidebook is split into 6 main areas:

  • Fontainebleau: A simple introduction to the 30 main bouldering areas.
  • Yonne-Morvan: Includes the spectacular Saussois and Surgy, plus hidden granite crags.
  • Auxois-Beaune-Macon: The Bourgogne area with a big concentration of classic limestone crags including Hauteroche, Saffres, Fixon, and Cormot.
  • Clermont-Ferrand-Cantal: The Auvergne area around Clermont-Ferrand and includes all the volcanic towers.
  • Saint-Etienne-Haute Loire: The quiet areas of Massif Central.
  • Ardeche-Lozere: Magnificent rock in southern France and includes the Gorge du Tarn and Jonty Gorge.

All the routes are shown on a mixture of colour photo topos and hand drawn topos, along with French grades.  For each area there is a detailed map including GPS info for the parking areas, campsites and picnic spots.

A break down of the grades is as follows:

  • Grade 4 - 1631 routes
  • Grade 5 - 2242 routes
  • Grade 6a-b - 2852 routes
  • Grade 6c-7a - 2401 routes
  • Grade 7b/c -1513 routes
  • Grade 8a-9a - 657 routes
