Bishop Bouldering Guidebook
Description
This is a comprehensive guidebook covering the extensive bouldering to be found in Bishop in California. Bishop is a bouldering paradise, a gem of a rugged little high desert mountain town in the Eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. The bouldering is high in the mountains above the town and is on two principal rock types. There is the pocketed Bishop tuff of volcanic rock at Tableland (Happy and Sad bouldering areas) and Sherwin Plateau, and the generally crimpier granite like quartz monzonite rock found at Buttermilk Country. This is one of the few places in the world where a high concentration of world-class bouldering combines with magnificent scenery, and near-perfect sunny weather (Bishop averages 296 days of sunshine per year).
This guidebook covers over 2,200 problems across a wide range of problems. It covers the Buttermilk Country (including outlying areas like Dales Camp and the Pollen Grains), The Happy and Sad Boulders at Tableland, plus the Outro and Essays areas at The Druid Stones, Rock Creek, and the Sherwin Plateau.
All the problems are shown on colour photo topos, along with boulder maps and a short description. Problems are banded in 5 different colours; Purple up to V0; Green for problems between V1 and V2; Blue for problems between V3 and V5; V10; Orange for problems between V6 and V9; and Red for problems from V10 upwards. For each main area there is a location map, approach information, and a general description of the style of bouldering to be found. Symbols show altitude, walk-in time along with a table showing the number of problems in each grade range.
