Description
This is a comprehensive bouldering guidebook covering the region of Allgäu in southern Germany. The bouldering area is located from the south of Kempten to Oberstdorf in southern Germany, and around the town of Fussen on the German/Austria border in the Lech Valley. The Allgau region offers something for everyone from extreme overhanging problems up to Font 8b+, to easy problems suitable for children, plus circuits similar to that found at Fontainebleau. There is a wide range of rock types from conglomerate and sandstone, to dolomite, marl and limestone. These rock types provide a variety of walls, jugs, micro-edges, slabs, and enormous overhangs - in short a complete playground for all boulders. In total 26 different crags are described, detailing over 1,850 boulder problems across a wide grade range of Font 1 to 8b+. The Hinterstein area is by far the largest with over 870 problems here alone, making it one of the largest bouldering areas in the Northern Alps.
All the bouldering problems are shown on colour photo topos, along with boulder maps. For each area there is a location map, access information and a brief description detailing the character and aspect of the bouldering. Additionally there is information about how good the landings are, type of rock, and the best time of year to boulder.
Published in April 2019 by Gebro Verlag, this guidebook is in German and English text throughout. This is the 4th edition of this Allgäu Block guidebook and it includes around 450 more problems and 1 new area (Gunzesried) than the previous edition.
