Trøndelag Bouldering in central Norway

Trøndelag is one of Norway’s premier bouldering regions with a huge concentration of problems across multiple styles and grades. The boulders are located in a variety of different locations such as forests, hillsides and near the coast. Most of the bouldering in the northern areas, such as Fosen (Harbak), Vingasand, Hasvåg and Flatanger are located close to the coast, and these are considered as the best bouldering areas in Trøndelag.


The style of the bouldering at Trøndelag is incredibly varied with 3 very different types of rock. There are conglomerate pockets at Stjørdal, granite at Snillfjord, and amazing gneiss features at Harbak, Flatanger, and Vingasand. In total there are over 1,500 boulder problems at Trøndelag across a wide range of grades from Fb3’s to Fb8b+.

Trøndelag bouldering guidebook - The definitive guidebook for Trøndelag is simply called the Trøndelag Bouldering Guidebook. It describes over 1,500 boulder problems across a wide range of grades (Font 3’s to Font 8b+) at 9 major areas. These are Trondheim, Stjørdal, Oppdal, Snillfjord, Vallersund, Vingsand, Hasvåg, Fosen (Harbak), and Flatanger.


Trøndelag bouldering season - The best time of the year to boulder at Trøndelag are the months of April, May, September and October. The summer months are very nice too, but if you're unlucky it can get too warm to send at your hardest problem. Many hard ascents are made in winter as a good selection of problems are located in caves, sheltered from rain and snow.


Getting to Trøndelag – The main city of the area is Trondheim, and there is an airport at Stjørdal. Alternatively if you fly into Oslo it is approximately a 4.5 hours’ drive to Trondheim.
