Rocca Pendice Climbing
Rocca Pendice is the most historic and varied rock‑climbing venue in the Euganean Hills, combining natural volcanic trachyte rock, classic multi‑pitch routes, modern sport routes, and a dramatic setting above the town of Teolo. It’s widely regarded as the most important crag in the Euganean Hills that also includes the smaller crags of Monte Pirio, Monte Gande, and Monte Cinto.
Rocca Pendice is a natural trachyte crag rising almost 200m above the surrounding landscape. The characteristics of the trachyte rock is somewhere between granite and dolomite, with many slabs, and steeper or vertical sections, but rarely overhanging. The solid rock has many crimps, along with pockets and cracks offering climbing that requires more technique rather than strength and demands good footwork. The crag is divided into multiple sectors on both the east and west faces, offering everything from a wide range of single pitch sport routes to historic multi‑pitch routes up to 170m long.
There are over 400 sport routes across a wide range of grades from F3’s to F8b, with many routes in the F5 to F6c grade range making it a good crag for beginner and intermediate climbers. The base of several sectors is child‑friendly and shaded by trees. The multi-pitch routes are up to 170m long, with most of them between 100m to 150m.
The single pitch sport routes are well bolted as are the vast majority of the multi-pitch routes. There are a handful of multi-pitch routes with more alpine characteristics, where it may be necessary to supplement the bolts with trad gear.
