Description

This Rockfax Guidebook describes some of the popular sport climbing and some trad climbing in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. This area is to the west of Avignon and stretches to the Spanish border, including the cities of Mines, Montpellier and Perpignan. In total 17 different climbing areas are described with over 3,000 routes across a wide range of grades and styles.

The guidebook includes the famous Gorge du Tarn area, plus its near neighbour Gorge de La Jonte and the legendary Orgon crag.  The guidebook is split into 5 main areas and covers the following crags:

  1. The Ardeche area: Chaulet Plage, Mazet Plage, Actinidias, Le Cirque des Gens, and Les Branches.
  2. The Tarn area: Gorge du Tarn area, Gorge de La Jonte, Le Boffi, and Cantobre.
  3. Thauac Area: Thaurac, Hortus, and Claret.
  4. The Gard area: Seynes and Russan.
  5. Massif des Alpilies area: Mont Gaussier, Orgon, and Mouries.

At the start of each crag there is a location map, and a good description giving a general overview of the crag and type of rock climbing to be found there. All the routes are illustrated on full colour photographs, topo style, with French grades.
