Description

The Gilwern Area guide is the comprehensive guidebook covering the sport climbing, Trad climbing and bouldering around the village of Gilwern, near Abergavenny. It is split into 3 main areas:

1) Gilwern Hill – Sport climbing on 5 different sectors that face west, north and east.
2) South Llangattock – Bouldering and Trad climbing on 6 different sectors that face numerous directions and get varying amounts of sun.
3) Blackrock – Sport climbing and bouldering on 3 different sectors facing north/northeast.

This Gilwern rock climbing guidebook describes 219 sport routes, of which 145 of these are graded at F6b or below. Over 100 of these sport routes are new. In addition there are over 125 trad routes, and many previously unpublished bouldering problems. A breakdown of the sport routes covered in the guidebook are as follows:
78 routes from F3 to F5+
86 routes from F6a to F6b+
46 routes from F6c to F7a+
9 routes from F7b to F7c

Published in June 2020 all the routes and problems are shown on colour photo topos. For each area there is a clear access map and description.
