An unknown climber on Dia de Sao Martelo (F7c) at Dente do Leao, Arrabida

The photograph opposite shows an unknown climber on Dia de Sao Martelo (F7c) at Dente do Leao, Arrabida.

Arrabida is a series of sea cliffs to the south of Lisbon that offer some of the best sport climbing in Portugal. The Dente do Leao (“the Lion’s Tooth”) is an impressive tower that stands out from the front of the sea cliff. With climbing on all four faces, and routes up to 40m long on slightly overhanging limestone rock, these are airy climbs with an old-school touch. They are technical climbs requiring precise moves between spaced bolts.

This photograph was taken by Ricardo Alves and it appears in the Portugal rock climbing guidebook that is available to buy from our shop.
