There are many excellent places in England, Wales and Scotland to go walking and hiking. With vast wades of green belt land, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and 15 designated National Parks there is something for everyone to enjoy. The map opposite shows the location of the 15 National Parks in the United Kingdom and they are listed below.
The highest mountain in England is situated in the Lake District, and is called Scafell Pike (978m). Snowdon is the highest mountain in Wales (1,085m) and is located in Snowdonia. The highest mountain in Scotland is called Ben Nevis (1,345m) and located to the north of the Trossachs National Park.
There are also a number of long distance walking routes in the UK, including 15 official National Trails in England and Wales. In addition to the National Trails there are also a number of other long distance paths plus a number of Great Trails in Scotland.
