There is a wide range of accommodation available in Fontainebleau for rock climbers. There are several campsites, Gites (self-catering holiday cottages), expensive hotels, budget hotels and self-catering apartments.
The “Jardin des Arts”, is nestled in the charismatic village of Barbizon, and comprises of two gîtes. Set within 18th and 19th century walls, restored in part by the architect Pierre Barbe, a fellow of Le Corbusier, two spacious, tranquil and very comfortable gîtes await you, to ensure a memorable stay. Bakery, grocery shop, pharmacy, cafés, restaurants, galleries and museums… a stone throw away from the gîtes. At the heart of this property, you can enjoy the floral garden from the first days of spring. These gîtes are ideal for climbers.
Gîte Au Jardin des Arts – sleeps up to 4 people
A large sunny duplex on the second floor upon a gallery, which has two levels. Very quiet with a private terrace facing south, a living room with couch and flat screen TV (national and international channels available), a fully fitted kitchen, dining area and a bathroom with a large shower and toilet. The masters bedroom is located on the first level, and upstairs there is a bedroom with two single beds, a dressing room, and a corner for children to play with a little desk with chairs, toys and books. High quality bedding is also included.
Gîte L’ Écureuil – sleeps up to 3 people
The gîte is located on the first floor upon a gallery and has all modern facilities. The gîte includes the following: A spacious bedroom with a Queen size bed (1m60x2m) as well as a single bed (1m90x2m), a flat screen TV (national and international channels available for viewing); a large fully fitted kitchen with dining and living area, a shower room/WC and towel rail. High quality bedding is also included.
You can also rent bouldering mats (crash pads) from here as well.
This is a large campsite near Milly-La-Foret, in the heart of the Trois Pignons bouldering area, and hence is very popular with climbers.
Facilities include 2 large toilet/shower/washing blocks which are of a high standard. There is also an open air swimming pool and a children's play area.
The site is open from the middle of February to the end of November. It gets very busy during the main holiday periods so it is best to book.
